Who am I

Thet Oo Maung stands as a committed humanitarian, a self-taught painter, as well as a photographer and videographer. He has harnessed his expertise behind the camera to amplify the voices of those who have been pushed to the sidelines, overlooked, or forcibly silenced. Through his artistic endeavors, he has addressed subjects spanning civil conflict, the menace of landmines, the challenges faced by people with disabilities, the critical importance of child education and healthcare, the empowerment of women, the realm of digital rights, the illicit practice of logging, the encroachment upon lands, and the degradation of the environment.

He took the initiative to organize and lead the inaugural underground human rights film festival in Burma, known as the "One Step Film Forum." Following the Military Coup in February 2021, he was compelled to leave his homeland and find refuge in the United States, a journey he embarked upon alongside his family.

Following my resettlement in the United States, my role shifted to that of a Photographer and Documentary Filmmaker, where my main focus remained dedicated to encapsulating the essence of Human Stories.
